AR, AC, and PR of SDC Armor

Using the concept of Penetration Resistance in armor, we can separate the effects of protection due to coverage from that due to material properties. Body armor should now have values for both AR, describing the coverage it provides, and PR, describing the material's resistance to damage and penetration. For SDC armors, the concept of Armor Coverage, AC, will be used exactly like AR is used now: natural rolls to strike higher than the AC will penetrate automatically, since they hit an unarmored section. If the roll to strike is less than the AC, we must examine the PV and PR involved, to determine if the attack was powerful enough to penetrate through the armor and damage the wearer.

Values of Armor Coverage

In general, the value of AC will be determined by the percentage of the body covered by the armor, weighted by the likelihood of a body area to be struck; leaving the back of your legs unarmored isn't as serious as leaving an equal area open on your chest. In general, most armor starts with a full torso vest, and adds optional armor segments. Each added segment of armor should provide a bonus to the value of AC. Only the rare, true full-body armor will have an AC of 20; most SDC levels of technology aren't capable of producing armor with AC greater than 19 (5% chance of striking open area) without sacrificing mobility and penetration resistance. One benefit to this system is that it will allow the use of modular armors, a number of which appear in the CoCW.

Examples

I've worked out values for a few specific armor example, assuming that helmets and faceplates are not included. The armors in HU2 aren't described sufficiently for me to be confident in assigning values. I'll leave it to the gaming groups' interpretations of what each armor provides in coverage, rather than make something up.
